| Chicago and Ljubljana, Summer 2006 |
| NEW YORK, August 2006. Jonathan Hall gave a very successful workshop at the National Convention of the American Guild of Organists in Chicago. On July 4, he presented a stimulating talk called "Encountering Calvin Hampton" to a nearly-full conference room at the Marriott. From there, unfortunately, he had to take a taxi to O'Hare immediately. An overnight flight to Heathrow, two train rides, and a shuttle from Stansted later, and he and Bill Powers were in Ljubljana, the exquisite capital of the little Alpine republic of Slovenia. There, Powers and Hall gave the world premiere of the David Hurd Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Organ, which they had just commissioned. The balance of the summer will be spent more quietly! |
