Prayer Corner-- Our Chapter Members and Friends Who Are Ill
The Brooklyn Chapter cares about its membership. That goes whether we are talking about the career of a colleague or the health of a friend. We are deeply concerned and offer our wishes and prayers for healing for our members...and any others who are ill or have recently suffered illness.

Ethel Craven-Carson, wife of long-time chapter member Joe Carson and a fixture at our Chapter's events, died on September 1, 2005. Born on September 23, 1912, Ethel attended Barnard and then earned a PhD at Columbia University. She was employed in the field of psychology, and worked for years at the VA Medical Center at Fort Hamilton. Her memorial service was held at Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims in the Heights on September 17. Chapter Member Bruce Oelschlager played, and the hymns included Beecher, written by Oelschlager's illustrious predecessor, John Zundel. Step-great-grandson David Craven, of Chicago, sang O Rest in the Lord by Mendelssohn. The eulogy was pronounced by the Reverend Neville Simmons-Smith. A large congregation was assembled. Ethel and Joe were married in 1982 and had also been active at Hanson Place United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. The deepest condolences of the Chapter, and its heartfelt prayers and affection, are with Joe and the rest of his extended family.
In Memoriam: Ethel Craven-Carson
As of late winter 2006, we are praying for the following members and friends: Debby May --a good friend of our Chapter, undergoing chemotherapy. You may be receiving an email about how you can help with vital blood donations. If you don't, and are interested, email our Dean Donald Barnum. Rev. Angela Askew --Mother Askew, Priest-in-Charge of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity, Brooklyn Heights, has suffered a heart attack. Mother is a major driving force behind the great work being done on the church's Skinner organ, where Gregory Eaton presides.
